( angela had watched him train earlier in the day. she'd taken a step out of the medical bay, taking the opportunity to see jack, genji, lena, even some of the others work.
she'd been polishing up on her diplomacy, falling onto that considering her combat skills were near nonexistant. but conversation wasn't the only place that diplomacy fell.
she'd invited genji down to the room. her dancing skills were a little rusty and she didn't know what his were like but she thought that it would be nice for them both to practice and give them an opportunity to talk some more.
she's sat down just inside the room as she waits. she has yet to consider that they won't have any music to practice to )
[ A chance to see Angela yet again is not one that Genji would pass up, and practicing the dances is much easier with an actual partner. He's no longer bold enough to simply ask any stranger, so this works out perfectly.
When he arrives, Angela is already there waiting for him; he makes a beeline in her direction. ]
Good afternoon, Angela.
[ Their group meeting had been strained, to say the least. This should be far more relaxed, even if the pressure is on to learn these dances. ]
( angela gives him a smile, standing and reaching a hand out to rest on his arm. it's a cold contrast to when she'd first seen him on base with his former looks, though angela is more familiar with his metallic appearance.
there's a few seconds of silence, angela giving him a look over before she responds. she's glad to see him, to be able to talk with him, even if it is strange after so long )
What about a waltz? Something simple to start with.
( to get a feel for each others movements before trying anything more )
[ This is far more comfortable for him, and it's strange for Genji to realize that he's become so accepting of a body that he used to hate. He's aware that it's odd for Angela, Lena, and Morrison, even if they might not want to comment on it directly. It's a good thing, though, and he knows that Angela is just as accepting of him as she'd always been.
As if to make that point, she steps over and makes quick, casual contact with him. They'll be having to handle each other for the dance, so there's no reason to get hung up on it. ]
Very well. [ A pause, and then he looks around the room. ] We need the right music, in that case.
( he did have a point. angela didn't have any music, though perhaps there would be some here. considering that dancing practice was a part of their training it would make sense )
( it's jack, it's genji, it's the countless other cost soldiers. it's wearing on angela even though she isn't the one fighting but worrying for her friends, wondering whether they'll be safe. there were different rules here and regardless of their skill she worried. and disagreed. additional violence on top of the war felt needless, but as she'd been reminded they needed to participate and the araneans liked the arenas.
still, as angela takes sight of genji, checking over his latest injuries, carefully examining where flesh met metal, she's unusually quiet. this time it's that silence that conveys her feelings rather than her words )
[ Angela had been quick to flag him down the moment that his fight in the arena had ended, and it's not as if Genji is surprised. This is her way of showing concern, after all, and he isn't going to begrudge her that. He's got a few scratches and bruises, nothing too worrisome, but Angela is probably the only person who could really tend to him, given his unique body.
Of course he's noticed how quiet she's being. Normally Angela would make conversation to put her patient at ease, though it doesn't always have to be that way with them. He's been in her care long enough that sometimes check-ups had been conducted in silence, but there's something about this that doesn't feel right. ]
Angela? Are you all right?
[ He dips his head down, trying to catch her gaze. ]
( it's an awkward silence to say the least. angela lets his question go unanswered for a few more seconds, finishing her examination. he isn't too hurt, mostly scratched and scraped rather than anything serious. it's lucky, and she should be relieved )
I'm fine. As are you.
( her hands fall from his body, examination finished as she takes a step back )
[ While Genji had tried to assure her that there were no serious injuries she needed to worry herself over, she'd insisted on taking a closer look all the same. He's figured out when there's no point to arguing with her, but when she announces him cleared, he nods. ]
I told you. [ He says it softly, not trying to rub her face in it. ] I know it's been some years since I've been an active member of Overwatch, but I haven't let myself get too soft.
[ Fighting is still something he's quite skilled at, and that's what the Araneans want from them. This is necessary, as much as Angela might not like it. ]
On the tragic event of your loss. My heart grieve to see you both cut down. Why, I nearly ripped the Lady Bes apart. Thank the Watcher she was not of my people. I would have had to cut her down, to think anyone else could have had a bite of you before your Ladies or myself would have. I assume you both plan your revenge upon the Regency for this humilating loss.
You must tell me how you mean to do it, join me, I am to have my portait painted this year and will need good and hearty company to cheer me, for my heart has been broken after your deaths. I do not often condone those who shamefully come back to life. But such specimens as you being left would offend me more deeply. Do not deny me looking upon your face.

( ooc: please either write a letter to decline the offer here, or head on over to the appropriate top level here. )
As we discussed, I came close to death's door once before. Walking through that door was a strange experience, one I would rather not repeat. (∋д∈) But I am still in one piece, so I can hardly complain! (・д・ゝ)
[ He suspects that 'strange' is an understatement. ] I hope that this is the last time for such an experience, my friend. I mean - obviously it's not the last last time but -- Anyway. Angela was worried about you. [ Thor was worried about him too, shh. ]
What was it like? Are you certain there are no ill effects? [ ????? ] Why can I not make your tiny faces? How do I make a sad one?
[ As with Jack, Lena has been leaving voicemails for him. Status updates, mostly, and nowhere near as many as there should be (given how long it's been for Genji and Jack) but they're frequent enough.
Once she sees Jack's message, she figures Genji is back too. ]
[ It's not surprising that everyone is reaching out now, and Genji does appreciate that Lena had been trying to keep them updated even while they were gone. At least it hadn't felt like three weeks to her and Angela. ]
I seem to be, yes! I'm sorry to have worried you. (◞‸◟)

I hope you were able to avoid watching those replays, at least.

That doesn't make it feel better.
I tried not to. The Araneans kept asking about you and Jack. How I thought you did, if I was gonna punish your defeat.
